Debra BenAvram, FASAE, CAE

Debra Benavram, FASAE, CAE is the Chief Executive Officer of the American Society for Parenteral and
Enteral Nutrition in Silver Spring, MD, an international society representing nearly 7000 interdisciplinary clinical nutrition professionals, with 20 staff, 32 chapters, and a $5M annual operating budget. Debra also serves as CEO for an affiliated research Foundation and two clinician certification organizations.

She has a strong passion for the redesigning of staff and volunteer cultures to support integration among all team members and eliminate silos. Debra has presented her staff culture, called the Circle Model, to other association executives and has piqued great interest in her innovative approach to encouraging and maintaining collaboration, communication, and a valued work environment.

Debra received a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics with a concentration in Business from the University of Maryland. She received her Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership with an emphasis on leadership and organizational culture from Miami University. She also achieved a certificate in Executive Leadership from Cornell University. An an active volunteer leader, Debra is an ASAE Fellow and currently serves on the ASAE Board of Directors. She also is on the Board of Directors for the Center for Survivor Agency and Justice, a national organization organization dedicated to enhancing advocacy for survivors of intimate partner violence.

In 2010, Debra was recognized with ASAE’s Emerging Leader Award, Women Who Promote Excellence in Associations. She has also received several other awards for her work, including being listed as one of CEO Update’s Top CEOs and the Washington Business Journal’s 2015 40 Under 40 Business Leaders.
